CBD Oil and Blood Pressure: What the Research Says

CBD oil has become incredibly popular in recent years. But there’s always been some confusion around what it can and can’t do.

For example, some have claimed that CBD oil can lower blood pressure. But studies show that this might not be true.

We’ll look at the research behind CBD oil and blood pressure to get to the bottom of this issue.

Then we’ll discuss how you can incorporate CBD oil into your life if you want to improve your heart health.

CBD and blood pressure

It’s not a new idea, but it’s one that has just recently been validated. CBD oil has a number of benefits for most people (more on that in a minute).

But there are specific groups of people who can benefit from CBD oil in an even more direct way.

People with high blood pressure will be happy to learn about these recent studies. Which show how it can reduce blood pressure without any side effects, including relaxation or lethargy.

These three studies, published in 2018 alone, have shown great promise for using it as a treatment option for hypertension.

In fact, researchers say that it may be able to replace some common medications used today—without causing any negative side effects!

Let’s take a look at what each study found.

The initial study was released in Phytomedicine in June 2018. Subjects taking 300 mg of hemp-derived cannabidiol per day had significantly lower systolic blood pressure than those taking a placebo.

Systolic is another word for your top reading when you measure your blood pressure. On average, those taking it saw their systolic numbers fall by 4 points while those taking placebos only saw a 1-point drop on average.

Researchers also noted that there were no significant side effects from using CBD to treat hypertension.

They also emphasized the need for more research to establish the effectiveness of other doses and the length of time necessary for any effects to manifest.

They argue that additional research is necessary before we can make any firm suggestions regarding the use of CBD oil as a therapy option for high blood pressure.

The second study, published in August 2018 in Hypertension Journal, looked at over 700 patients with high blood pressure who took either 600 mg of cannabidiol daily or a placebo.

After 12 weeks, researchers found that those taking CBD saw a reduction in both diastolic and systolic readings—by 5 points each!

The fact that no negative side effects were mentioned in these studies was once again stressed by the researchers.

Can CBD oil lower blood pressure?

CBD oil is getting a lot of attention lately for its potential benefits.

And many of these purported benefits, including reducing blood pressure, are something many people need.

But what does current research say about CBD oil and blood pressure?

According to current research, there is some evidence that cannabis-based products may lower blood pressure in patients with hypertension.

However, researchers point out that it could be due to other components in these products as well as cannabis compounds working together to have an overall effect on your health.

In addition, it’s important to remember that not all CBD oil will provide you with these benefits.

The best way to know if a product will help reduce your blood pressure is by reading reviews from people who have used them before.

Also, keep in mind that many of these products are still illegal at a federal level and haven’t been approved by medical professionals for use outside of clinical trials.

They don’t include instructions or dose suggestions, and they are not controlled by any organization.

That also means they might contain trace amounts of THC, which can cause additional side effects like paranoia or anxiety.

And finally, because these products aren’t regulated by any agency.

You won’t be able to sue anyone if something goes wrong while using one of them.

Which could include anything from getting sick after taking it to experience side effects like paranoia or anxiety.

Is it safe to use CBD oil with blood pressure medication?

Some studies have suggested that CBD can be used to treat blood pressure, although research is still in its early stages.

It’s important to note that different CBD oils may contain different concentrations of CBD or other cannabinoids.

This means that what may work for one person (who used an extract high in CBD) may not work for another (who used an extract low in CBD).

Always talk with your doctor before you try a new therapy to ensure safety and effectiveness.

Also, keep in mind that the FDA has no supervision over CBD products because they are categorized as dietary supplements.

You should always speak with a licensed medical professional before taking any dietary supplement.

Lastly, as mentioned above, CBD oil interacts with many medications.

Do not use it if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as it could harm both mother and baby.

If you suffer from liver disease or have a history of seizures, talk to your doctor about whether CBD oil is right for you.

All of that said, there is some evidence that cannabis-based therapies can help lower blood pressure.

Does it interact with other medications?

Though CBD oil is considered to be a natural product, it does interact with pharmaceutical drugs.

When combined with CBD oil, some prescription drugs, including beta-blockers, anti-depressants, and opioids, have been known to have more severe negative effects.

As such, you should consult your doctor before starting any new medication.

Additionally, some may not advise taking CBD oil if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Always consult your physician before taking any new supplements under these circumstances.

Does it work?

The majority of research conducted thus far has focused on using CBD oil for treating anxiety disorders like panic disorder. Social anxiety disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, etc.

While CBD has demonstrated effectiveness in many clinical trials for these conditions.

Two conditions that haven’t been studied much in relation to CBD oil are epilepsy and schizophrenia.

There is still more research needed to determine how effective CBD oil can be in treating these conditions.

Is it safe?

CBD oils are generally safe, but they can cause side effects just like any other medication.

Side effects vary from person to person and can include drowsiness, diarrhea, changes in appetite, fatigue, changes in mood/mindset, and dizziness/lightheadedness.

Is it an alternative to medication

This is an important question to ask. There are many people who find that taking CBD oil is a better alternative to pharmaceutical drugs because of how it influences them.

A study published in Neurotherapeutics found that cannabis has an influence on our endocannabinoid system.

Which helps maintain homeostasis within our bodies. Many patients have found that after taking CBD. They had a decrease in their heart rate, blood pressure, and overall stress levels.

It’s also been demonstrated to be effective in treating depression, PTSD, and anxiety. Its capacity to engage with brain receptors that control pain perception is responsible for these advantages.

For example, one study from 2014 found that cannabis use was associated with significantly lower pain ratings compared to non-users.

Another study from 2015 found that participants who used medical marijuana experienced lower levels of chronic pain than those who didn’t use it at all.

Additionally, studies point to the possibility that CBD could be utilized to treat other ailments including diabetes or arthritis.

Is there evidence that it works?

While it’s too early to say for sure, studies are beginning to shed light on whether CBD oil is effective in lowering blood pressure.

One study conducted by researchers at Synergy Health Group in Calgary, Canada (published in Nature’s Open Medicine Journal) found that patients with high blood pressure who took 600 mg of CBD saw a reduction of systolic blood pressure by 10.5 mmHg.

Another study published in The Journal of Clinical Pharmacology looked at how well different doses of CBD oil worked against hypertension.

They concluded that the antihypertensive effect of cannabidiol is mediated through specific CB1R receptors.

This means that those using CBD might be able to reduce their blood pressure without adverse side effects like drowsiness or dizziness.

Although more research needs to be done before we can draw any conclusions about its efficacy as a treatment.
